Flood update from NSW SES on 13 February 2023
Summary
MENINDEE AND SURROUNDS – MONITOR CONDITIONS
The NSW SES advises people in Low lying areas along the Darling River around Menindee to MONITOR CONDITIONS of the flooding on the Darling River.
You should monitor conditions by checking warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and Facebook page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and following the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.
The Bureau of Meteorology advises along the Darling River at Menindee, minor flooding is no longer occurring.
The Darling River at Menindee Town fell below the minor flood level (8.50 metres) Friday evening and is currently at 8.03 metres and falling slowly, below the minor flood level.
Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by floodwaters:
- Low-lying areas near the river may be flooded.
- Road closure are in place check with local council for road closure details.

POONCARIE AND SURROUNDS – WATCH AND ACT – DO NOT ENTER FLOODWATER
The NSW SES advises people in Pooncarie and Surrounds NOT TO ENTER FLOODWATER due to
current widespread moderate flooding.
You should monitor the situation as it is constantly changing. Avoid floodwater for your safety.
The Bureau of Meteorology advises minor flooding is continuing on the Darling River at
Pooncarie, where river levels are likely to remain elevated into March. The main flood peak along
the Darling River is now downstream of Burtundy, where major flooding is occurring.
The Darling River at Pooncarie fell below the moderate flood level on Sunday and is currently at
7.58 metres and falling slowly, with minor flooding. The Darling River at Pooncarie may remain
above the minor flood level (6.80 m) into March.
Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by
dangerous floodwaters:
- Local roads, causeways, culverts and bridges will close due to flooding
- Some rural properties may become isolated by floodwaters

BURTUNDY, POMONA, ELLERSLIE & GREAT DARLING ANABRANCH – WATCH AND ACT – DO NOT ENTER FLOODWATER
The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) NOT TO ENTER FLOODWATER due to
current widespread major flooding:
- Burtundy and surrounds
- Pomona
- Ellerslie
- Great Darling Anabranch
You should monitor the situation as it is constantly changing. Avoid floodwater for your safety.
The Bureau of Meteorology advises major flooding is occurring along the Darling River at
Burtundy where river levels are likely to remain elevated between Burtundy and Wentworth
during February.
This will impact surrounding communities with road closures and isolated rural properties likely.
The Darling River at Burtundy peaked at 8.26 metres Sunday 5 February and is currently at 8.05
metres and falling slowly, with major flooding. The Darling River at Burtundy may remain above
the major flood level (7.70 metres) over the next several days.
Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by
dangerous floodwaters:
- Pomona
- Ellerslie
- Great Darling Anabranch
- Local roads. causeways, culverts and bridges may be flooded
- Some rural properties may become isolated by floodwaters.
