Australia's oil and gas industry congratulates Chief Minister Michael Gunner and the Territory Labor Party on forming majority government in the Northern Territory for a second term.
APPEA Director for the Northern Territory Keld Knudsen said the election result highlighted the community wanted a stable and balanced approach to the response to the COVID-19 and the economic challenges facing the Territory.
"The NT election has delivered a clear and strong message on creating jobs and growing the local economy," Mr Knudsen said.
"While two minor parties, if elected, threatened to ban hydraulic fracturing and continued onshore gas development, the vast majority of Territorians voted for parties that support the science, evidence and benefits of a well-regulated industry and the long-term economic growth opportunities it provides.
"The industry can play a key and stabilising role in the Territory's economic recovery by providing jobs, private investment and ultimately an increase in taxes and royalties to the Northern Territory Government.
"APPEA and its members look forward to working with Government, all members of parliament and the wider community to get back to work and continue building trust and delivering benefits."
