Budget 2023 - Investing in Our Future. Delivering for All Territorians - Continuing our strong investment into remote housing
7 May 2023
The Territory Labor Government is improving housing in the bush.
Since 2016, a record 2,744 homes have been built or upgraded in the bush, while a further 898 homes are currently underway. This is over a billion dollars in job creating work funded by the Territory and Commonwealth governments.
Budget 2023 continues this investment with $601 million for remote housing across the Territory.
This investment will be delivered through our HomeBuild, Room to Breathe and Government Employee Housing programs. Construction works will be delivered across 61 communities and six Town Camps in Alice Springs.
Investing in Government Employee Housing in our regional and remote communities is important to meeting the housing needs of our workers, such as our teachers, police and health professionals, to deliver essential services and programs across the Territory.
Budget 2023 will deliver 37 new Government Employee Houses across Arnhem, Big Rivers, Barkly and Central Australia.
Land servicing is the foundation to housing developments. Budget 2023 will fund subdivisions across Maningrida, Galiwinku, Wadeye (Manthape Subdivision), Gapuwiyak and Angurugu in preparation for new housing.
The Territory Government is committed to ensuring all Territorians have access to safe, secure, affordable housing. The continued investments in remote housing will further support these essential works to improving living conditions for those in remote communities.
