Budget 2023 will allocate $5.8 million to boost the scope of the Tennant Creek Visitor Park as part of the Barkly Regional Deal.
The Visitor Park will respond to the need for more short-term, affordable accommodation for people travelling to Tennant Creek for cultural, health or social reasons.
This investment is in addition to the Federal Government's original commitment of $5 million, bringing the total project to $10.8 million.
Territory based company Ashford Group Pty Ltd were awarded the design tender in November 2022. These additional funds will allow for greater capacity and enhanced facilities at the park.
Once complete, it will provide safe, secure and alcohol-free accommodation for visitors to Tennant Creek from remote Aboriginal communities and outstations.
Located on the corner of Leichhardt Street and Udall Road, the Visitor Park will comprise different types of accommodation including open, grassed camping areas with large, covered shelters for swags and cabins.
Remediation land works are currently underway with an additional subdivision contract planned for June 2023.
The Tennant Creek Visitor Park project is being guided by the Barkly Regional Deal Visitor Park Working Group, who selected the site, set the design principles and have begun developing the service delivery elements.
