Northern Territory Police have arrested a 12-year-old in relation to property and traffic offences after a vehicle was stolen in Katherine yesterday.
Around 9:30pm, police received reports of a white dual cab Hilux utility that had been stolen from the vicinity of the Katherine Sporting Grounds.
Early this morning, Katherine general duties attempted to apprehend the vehicle multiple times. During the first engagement the vehicle was driven in the wrong direction down Railway Terrace and shortly afterwards a pursuit was terminated. In a later engagement, a police vehicle was rammed on Kintore Street at low speed causing minor damage.
The stolen vehicle was later recovered after it was abandoned on Power Crescent, Katherine South.
The youth driver was later arrested at a separate location without incident.
The youth remains in custody and is expected to be charged with property and vehicle offences later this evening.
Further occupants of the stolen motor vehicle remain outstanding and police are currently working to identify them.
