Today the community of Ntaria (Hermannsburg) celebrates the handover of the final home in its new build program, marking the completion of 42 new homes to the community located west of Alice Springs.
The homes have been delivered under the Territory Labor Government's $2.2 billion Remote Housing Investment Package, jointly funded by the Territory and Australian Governments.
The package delivered land servicing for a 30-lot subdivision for the 42 additional homes for the community of Ntaria.
Shirleen and Justine are the happy new tenants of the new modular home, which features 5 bedrooms to house their large family.
Some of the families in the new homes previously experienced overcrowding in the community, with over 10 people in some homes.
The community of Ntaria has also received upgrades to 28 homes, including government employment houses, with the three last homes to receive renovations currently underway.
Since 2016, the Territory Labor Government has invested $31.5 million in Ntaria for land servicing, new homes, renovated and expanded homes and government employment housing, with $4.7 million of which were capital works contracts awarded to Aboriginal Business Enterprises.
Housing designs and tenant allocations are chosen by the community, accommodating to needs for young families and mobility spaces for senior residents.
This year the Territory and Australian Labor Governments have committed a further $4 billion over 10 years to deliver up to 270 new homes each year in remote communities across the Territory.
