INSAG Forum: the Future of Nuclear Safety and Influencing Factors
Monday, 25 September 2023, 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m., in Conference Room CR5, C Building, seventh floor.
The annual International Nuclear Safety Advisory Group (INSAG) Forum will be held to discuss and share opinions on several different factors that will define the future of nuclear safety, including climate change, the frequency of extreme environmental events, and geopolitical and economic developments.
Demonstration of Software and Mobile Applications Supporting Nuclear Security Operations
Monday, 25 September 2023, from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. at ESPACE M0E, M Building, ground floor.
This event will present the audience with the tools developed by the IAEA to assist countries in conducting nuclear security field operations and in making decisions in the case of nuclear security events. The event will also include a hands-on demonstration.

The International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS), which was offered for the first time by the IAEA in 1996, provides peer advice on implementing international instruments and IAEA guidance on the protection of nuclear and other radioactive material, and on associated facilities and activities.
This event will commemorate the significant milestone of 100 IPPAS missions. The 100th IPPAS mission is expected to be conducted by the end of the 2023.

This event will explain how the IAEA's Incident and Emergency Centre has historically supported Member States in nuclear and radiological emergencies, and how its work has evolved in relation to emergency preparedness and response to recent events.

The IAEA Statute authorizes the Agency to establish or adopt standards of safety for protection of health and minimization of danger and to provide for the application of these standards. Since the first IAEA safety standard was published in 1958, they have served as the global reference for national regulatory systems and form the basis for several international legal instruments. This event will feature a panel discussion with leading experts in the field to explore the evolution of the IAEA's role in developing these standards, their practical use amongst Member States and evolution in their dissemination.

This event aims to present the concept and structure of the training activities to be offered at the Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre (NSTDC). It will be accompanied by a visit to the NSTDC in Seibersdorf.
40 Years of OSART Missions: Supporting Member States to Improve Safety Performance

Radiation Safety in Education: Guidance for Students, Teachers, Researchers and Regulators

This event will discuss Radiation Safety in the Use of Radiation Sources in Research and Education (Safety Guide No. SSG-87) and the IAEA's continuous efforts to promote partnerships among nuclear education and training institutions worldwide, showcasing its support to schools, colleges, universities and national regulators to implement nuclear education and research through guidance on the safe handling of radioactive materials. Presentations will address capacity-building efforts for more effective, hands-on learning and how to engage and encourage young people in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) - the next generation of experts, researchers, leaders, trainers, teachers and lecturers in the nuclear field.
Tenth Plenary Meeting of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Network (GNSSN)

This event will provide a forum for IAEA Member States to discuss challenges related to the development of a sustainable radiation and nuclear safety infrastructure in line with the IAEA safety standards and international good practices. The IAEA Secretariat will brief the meeting on the update of GNSSN development and cooperation with other forums and networks. At this event, the winners of the Young Professionals Competition on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems will present the innovative solution "Nuclear Ferris Wheel Application" and its future.
The IAEA NHSI for Effective Global Deployment of Safe and Secure Advanced Nuclear Reactors

Senior Safety and Security Regulators' Meeting

At this event, heads of regulatory authorities and other senior regulatory officials in the fields of nuclear, radiation, transport and radioactive waste safety and nuclear security will discuss regulatory challenges and share good practices. The meeting will also focus on IAEA Secretariat initiatives to support regulatory bodies.
Launch of the Regulatory Authority Information System (RAIS+)

Several countries have used the Regulatory Authority Information System (RAIS) to establish their registries of radiation sources and other safety and nuclear security related records. A new version of the system, RAIS+, has been developed based on the feedback collected and driven by new information technologies. This event will present RAIS+ and inform Member States about planned activities to launch RAIS+. Different features and functionalities of RAIS+ will be shown, along with examples of its implementation.
Strengthening Nuclear Security Worldwide Through the A/CPPNM and ICSANT

This joint IAEA-United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) event will highlight how becoming party to and effectively implementing the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (A/CPPNM) and the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT) helps strengthen nuclear security worldwide, with States sharing their practical experiences in adhering to and implementing these key legal instruments. It will also showcase the available support provided by the IAEA and the UNODC to States. This event is organized jointly by the IAEA and UNODC.
Regulatory Cooperation Forum Plenary Meeting

The Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF) was established in 2010 to facilitate coordinated support to the regulatory bodies in nuclear power embarking countries. This event will provide updates of the RCF's activities both to RCF members and non-RCF members. It will focus on the improvement of the RCF programme to enhance the support for regulatory infrastructure development in nuclear power embarking countries, based on the comprehensive survey for RCF members.
