Moira Shire Council has released a draft Stormwater Management Strategy for Numurkah, which is now available for public consultation.

This innovative plan aims to guide sustainable residential development in the growing area of Numurkah North.

The strategy is a forward-thinking initiative that prioritises smart infrastructure and environmental preservation. It addresses key aspects such as efficient stormwater flow management, innovative designs for cleaner water, and robust flood management measures. By integrating seamlessly with existing infrastructure and preserving local green spaces, the strategy ensures a cohesive and sustainable urban development for Numurkah.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Graeme Emonson PSM said Council was committed to creating a resilient future for Numurkah.

"This strategy is a significant step towards achieving many goals for Numurkah, and we value the community's input to make it even better," Dr. Emonson said.

Fellow Administrator for Moira Shire, Suzanna Sheed AM said that if the strategy is endorsed it would have the potential to unlock land for Urban Development and enable Council to give clear direction to interested developers.

"It has the potential to open up 450 blocks for residential development which is a significant contribution towards the goals set by the Victorian government in their housing plan and represents about 10% of Moira's target for new homes by 2051 as set by the Victorian government," Ms Sheed said.

Community is encouraged to review the draft strategy and provide their valuable feedback. The consultation period is open until Friday 30 August, with drop-in sessions available at the Numurkah Community Learning Centre to discus the strategy with Council staff on Tuesday 6, Tuesday 13 and Tuesday 20 August from 9.30am – 4.30pm.
