Register now for next week's Australasian Waste and Recycling Expo
The premier event for the waste and resource recovery industry, the Australasian Waste and Recycling Expo (AWRE), is on next week from 25-26 November.
The National Waste and Recycling Industry Council (NWRIC) is proud to be a supporting partner, and will be facilitating four sessions all of which will be held online.
"AWRE presents a comprehensive program covering all aspects of the waste and resource recovery industry and is an event not to be missed," said NWRIC CEO Rose Read.
NWRIC's first facilitated session Waste to Energy on Day One (Wed, 25 Nov) with Richard Kirkman, CEO and Managing Director of Veolia, Dr Marc Stammbach, Managing Director of Hitachi Zosen Inova and Justin Koek, NSW Department of Planning Industry and Environment, will focus on the role of energy recovery from waste in solving Australia's waste problems and discuss how this technology fits within State and Territory waste avoidance and resource recovery strategies.
On Day Two (Thurs, 26 Nov) the Hon Sussan Ley MP, Minister for the Environment will open the conference with an update on the $190M Recycling Modernisation Fund and associated Federal Government recycling initiatives to generate $600 million of recycling investment and drive a billion-dollar transformation of Australia's waste and recycling capacity.
This will be followed by a session on the National State of Waste where Vik Bansal, Managing Director, Cleanaway, Peter Bury, Chemistry Australia and Matt Ryan from the Federal Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment, will join the Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management, the Hon. Trevor Evans MP and NWRIC CEO Rose Read. They will engage in an interactive discussion on how Australia is tracking post China National Sword, and what we can expect to see over the next twelve to eighteen months at a local, state and national level.
Finally, NWRIC CEO Rose Read will facilitate a discussion on Container Deposit Scheme Harmonisation Considerations between State agency representatives Alex Young, NSW EPA and Karl Shanley, Victoria DLEWP along with industry representative Mark Biddulph from Cleanaway. The panel will explore key learnings from the various schemes in operation across Australian jurisdictions, and what does harmonisation means for all states, as Victoria and Tasmania prepare to introduce CDS over the next two years.
Ms Read encourages as many people to register to attend as possible.
"There are a lot of great sessions being held over the two days, with AWRE being opened by the NSW Minister the Hon. Matt Kean on the first day in a session supported by the Waste Contractors & Recyclers Association of NSW, as well as a session on the impacts of COVID on the industry, the circular economy, compostables, food waste, packaging and e-waste," Ms Read said.
