One person has died following a two-vehicle crash near Clough Rd, Kaitaia.
Two other people are in a serious condition and two are in a serious but stable condition and have been airlifted to hospital.
Police were called to the scene on State Highway 1, Kaitaia shortly after 5pm.
The road is currently closed and motorists are advised to expect significant delays.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
