Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on SH1, Waiouru Military Area, Ruapehu District.
Police were alerted to the crash around 11.45am.
Initial reports indicate three vehicles are involved and several people are injured.
A helicopter has been dispatched from Palmerston North.
The road is closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The Serious Crash Unit have been advised.
