Swift reporting and a quick response from Police has seen two people put before the Court for their alleged role in a burglary in Waiuku this week.
Police allege two people have entered a residential property around midday on Tuesday 18 July before being disturbed by the property owner.
Upon seeing the victim, the pair returned to their car and fled the area.
The victim was able to note the registration of the vehicle and immediately called Police to provide details, along with a description of those involved and their vehicle.
Police quickly deployed to the area and located the vehicle driving on Waiuku Road where they failed to stop for Police when signalled to do so.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Wai Shing Place in Pukekohe where one of the offenders was taken into custody at the scene.
A second person attempted to flee the area on foot however was located nearby during a ground search before being apprehended.
Further enquiries established the vehicle used by the offenders was sought by Police in connection to other offending in Tāmaki Makaurau and has since been impounded.
Two men, aged 40 and 46, have appeared in the Manukau and Pukekohe District Courts today charged with burglary and are due to reappear later this month.
The 40-year-old male has also been charged in relation to a number of retail theft incidents alleged to have been committed between Mount Wellington and Pukekohe in recent weeks.
Counties Manukau South Area Commander, Inspector Joe Hunter, says this is a fantastic result, which saw the victims working closely with Police.
"We would like to acknowledge the victim of the burglary for their quick response in providing critical information to Police which directly enabled the later apprehensions.
"Time is often of the essence when it comes to investigating burglaries and we hope these arrests provide the community with reassurance that Police are actively responding to calls to service as they arise and holding those responsible to account.
"Our partners at Victim Support are engaged and working alongside the victim with Police."
