OAS Council Marks Inter-American Democratic Charter Anniversary

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, September 11, at 14:30 EDT (18:30 GMT), in the Simon Bolivar room at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the twenty-third anniversary of the Inter-American Democratic Charter and International Day of Democracy.

The meeting will feature presentations by:

· The Head of North America and Permanent Observer of International IDEA to the United Nations, Annika Silva-Leander;

· The Co-Executive Director of Derechos Digitales, Juan Carlos Lara;

· The academic of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Lucas Ghersi;

· The political scientist of Catholic University of Cordoba (Argentina), Agustín Laje Arrigoni;

· The Co-Director, Karisma Foundation (Colombia), Catalina Moreno Arocha;

· The former Judge of Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Asdrubal Aguiar;

· The Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Studies, Electoral Tribunal of Panama, Salvador Sanchez;

· The anchor and founder of ConCriterio (Guatemala); Juan Luis Font;

· The Secretary for the Strengthening of Democracy of the OAS General Secretariat, Francisco Guerrero.
