OAS Demands Voting Verification In Venezuelan Election

OAS

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) expresses its solidarity with the victims of repression in Venezuela and their families and demands an end to violence and the imprisonment of protesters by the government, while reiterating the need to verify the voting records of the Venezuelan electoral process of July 28, 2024.

In this regard, we welcome the communications from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and the United States announced yesterday.

Since the only available records are those that have been made public by Venezuelan electoral actors, it is necessary and essential that the verification of records begins with the available material, until government and official actors can produce their own.

In this sense, the appointment of a commission of experts in the multilateral system is urgently needed to begin verification immediately.

The OAS General Secretariat notes that the five-day delay in the publication of the electoral records is the longest in the history of the region. These records were supposed to have been made public on Sunday night, and as of today, Friday, they have not yet been published.
