OAS Mission Wraps Fourth Visit for Guatemala Judge Selection

The Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the Selection of Judges of the Supreme Court of Justice and Courts of Appeals and other Courts of Equal Category in Guatemala today concludes its fourth visit to the country. During this visit, the Mission met with intergovernmental authorities and other relevant actors in the process.

The Mission once again urges the Congress of the Republic to act responsibly in the final selection of the judges for the Courts of Appeals, ensuring that those who comprise it are honorable, suitable and capable persons.

In beginning the selection process today, Congress has the role of protecting democracy and the independence of the justice system, in compliance with international standards for the selection of judges for the high courts.
