OAS Secretariat Responds to ICC Prosecutor Reports

OAS

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) expresses that, with respect to yesterday's press information on the kinship between a member of the defense of those being investigated in the Bolivarian regime and the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, we understand that it is not admissible to doubt the honorability of any person or to speculate on the content of the action that has been taken, but rather on the reasoned analysis of the same. In that sense, we must presume that Prosecutor Karim Khan acts properly and will act properly and in accordance with the ethical standards that are required of him and that his position merits.

The General Secretariat does not consider it pertinent at this time any attempt to recuse Prosecutor Karim Khan, especially by political actors who have been outside of all procedures carried out to date in the denunciation against the chain of command of the Venezuelan authoritarian regime before the International Criminal Court.

We also consider it inappropriate to process unfounded or easily formulated requests, which only undermine the proceedings being carried out.

The General Secretariat will continue its efforts to ensure that there is justice for the victims and families of victims at the International Criminal Court.
