Drivers are reminded to observe Wyndham City's school crossing supervisors' directions during drop-off and pick-up times as school resumes this week.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, welcomed students back to school and reminded drivers to be courteous to School Crossing Supervisors.
"A reminder to all drivers, when you see flags displayed at a school crossing, it's a sign to be extra cautious," she said. "Always watch out for the school crossing supervisor and never stop or park over the crossing."
This month, Wyndham City will be reaching out to schools to promote the importance of road safety in school newsletters and inviting students and caregivers to introduce themselves to their crossing supervisor.
"Having a respectful relationship with your School Crossing Supervisor is important. Students and caregivers have an important role to play in keeping everyone safe while crossing the road."
Tips for students to cross safely
- Stand back from the road and wait for the whistle to cross the road
- Hop off your bike or scooter and walk it across the road
- Hold balls (rather than bouncing) when crossing the road
- Listen to your school crossing supervisor's instructions
