The City's 8th annual Odyssey Film Festival has come early.
Due to popular demand, the Odyssey film festival is online now and will run until Monday 7 December 10pm.
Usually taking place on the big screen at Village Cinemas Geelong, the Year 11 and 12 Media Studies Film Festival is available on demand via www.geelongaustralia.com.au/odyssey/
This year's entrants include students from Geelong College, Kardinia International College, Geelong Grammar School, Sacred Heart College Geelong, St Josephs College Geelong, Geelong High School, Belmont High School, Lara Secondary College, Surf Coast Secondary College, and North Geelong Secondary College.
The festival gives students the platform to show their work outside of the classroom and aims to skill up young people by sharing their talent.
With the film festival supported by Geelong UNESCO City of Design, the young filmmakers will have the opportunity for a global audience through the UNESCO network.
The three award categories include an Audience Favourite Film, Best Film, and a 'Reflecting the Times of the Pandemic' award.
The Audience Favourite will receive a trophy and a Go Pro Max valued at $800. To vote, viewers can click on a link to a voting screen, and provide a star rating for every film, providing support to a young person's film career.
Best Film will be judged by local film enthusiast Mizuki Kobiro and past Odyssey entrants Darcy Broom, Jemma Teesdale and Harrison Bailey.
Geelong High teacher and local film maker John Foss assisted in creating the 'Reflecting the Times of the Pandemic' award which will be given to a film that embraces and marks the challenges faced by students this year.
In a special event, inaugural winner Joey Knox will show his film 'The Echo' which was selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2020.
Award winners will receive their prizes soon after the festival and short videos of them receiving their prizes will be posted on Geelong Youth Facebook.
