A man has been charged after he was arrested by an off-duty officer in Central Coast.
Just after 8pm yesterday (Wednesday 22 January 2025), emergency services were called to a business on Bryant Drive, Tuggerah, following reports of a man with a knife.
Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District were told a man allegedly pulled out a knife after he was subdued by a man – an off-duty officer - and resisted to him.
It is alleged the man initially attempted to leave the location without paying for an item and stopped by security guards before he assaulted two staffs at the scene and the off duty officer intervened.
Further checks revealed the man drove a stolen vehicle when he arrived at the scene. The vehicle was reported stolen from Wyong on the 6 January 2025.
The off-duty officer – a constable attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command – was not injured.
The 31-year-old man was taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with following offences:
- Shoplifting value less than or equal to $2000,
- Larceny value less than or equal to $2000
- Common assault(two counts)
- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence
- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty
- Intimidate police officer in execution of duty without aggravated bodily harm
- Possess prohibited drug
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Use registrable vehicle not display authorised number-plates
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and
- Custody of knife in public place
He was subsequently charged with two outstanding warrants:
- Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
- Fail to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgement (two counts)
- Custody of knife in public place
He was refused bail to appear at Wyong Local Court today (Thursday 23 January 2025).
