A man has been charged following a police pursuit in a stolen car in the state's Central West yesterday.
About 1pm on Thursday (11 November 2021), officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District conducted patrols of the Newell Highway following reports a car had been stolen from Binnaway and the driver allegedly failed to pay for fuel at service station at Gilgandra.
About 18km north of Dubbo, officers attempted to stop a Ford Fairlane, however, the driver allegedly failed to comply, and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns and the Ford was later located abandoned in Purvis Lane.
Officers from the Rural Crime Prevention Team, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol, as well as general duties police and detectives, commenced an extensive search of the area, before the man was located climbing up the outside a grain silo.
The 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station, where he was charged with:
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously (Skye's law) (x2),
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (x2),
- Dishonestly obtain financial advantage (x6),
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (x3),
- Robbery in company and,
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Friday 12 November 2021).
