In a ground-breaking move towards a greener future, the Resource Recovery Centre has introduced free electronic waste drop-off services. Starting now, residents and local businesses can dispose of their electronic devices in a responsible manner, at no cost, right here in the heart of our community.
This initiative aims to tackle growing concerns about electronic waste, also known as e- waste, which poses significant environmental risks when disposed of improperly. "With the rapid advancement of technology, electronic devices are being replaced more frequently, so it's important to make it easy for people to dispose of their old devices correctly," says Alyssa Villar Wingecarribee's Waste Education Project and Policy Officer.
A wide range of electronic items are accepted, including:
Printers
Scanners
Fax machines Computer monitors Desktops
Tablets
Phones and mobile devices Computer accessories Electronic cables
Laptops
Hard drives CD drives Projectors
Recognising the urgency of addressing effective handling of this particular waste, the Resource Recovery Centre has taken a pro-active approach by offering community members a convenient and cost-free solution. Drop-in to the designated drop-off point for e-waste at the RRC in Moss Vale and dispose of your unwanted devices safely and responsibly.
This new service not only safeguards our environment but also supports the principles of a circular economy. "The collected electronic waste will undergo proper recycling and resource recovery processes, minimising the extraction of raw materials and reducing the need for new manufacturing," Alyssa says. "This approach conserves valuable resources and helps create new job opportunities in the recycling sector."
Local residents and business owners are encouraged to take full advantage of this new opportunity to declutter the home and workspace in a way that makes a positive impact on our planet, and contributes to a cleaner, sustainable future for our Shire.
Keeping the experience as seamless as possible for all participants, friendly staff will be on hand to assist with drop-offs and provide guidance on which electronic items are accepted. Certain restrictions may apply, and hazardous materials cannot be accepted.
Together, we can make a tangible difference to the impact of electronic waste, now and for the benefit of future generations.
