A major sea rescue is currently underway on the states south coast.
About 1pm today (Monday 2 September 2024), officers from the Marine Area Command and Australian Defence Force were notified by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre that a 19m yacht had activated a distress beacon approximately 150km offshore from Nowra.
Officers are expected to rendezvous with the vessel about midnight.
The vessel is believed to have sustained a mechanical issue and is taking on water.
There are no reports of any injuries.
