The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in Nomi, Ishikawa Prefecture, have signed an agreement on academic cooperation. A symposium to commemorate the signing of this agreement was held in Ishikawa Prefecture on Saturday, July 15, and was attended by officials from both institutions and Naoki Okada, Minister of State for Okinawa.
Through this collaboration agreement, OIST and JAIST aim to jointly produce outstanding research results by leveraging the advantages of their respective research expertise and promoting the exchange and merging of innovative ideas. Based on these research results, we will accelerate the development of innovations and work to solve social issues.
At the event, JAIST President Minoru Terano commented "We have been working with national and international research institutions, and we expect that our collaboration with OIST will be one of the most important. In advancing world-class research, OIST is one of our target universities. I look forward to contributing to the development of Okinawa and Ishikawa, as well as to the advancement of science in Japan and around the world."
OIST President and CEO Karin Markides said, "This is the first collaboration agreement since I assumed office in June. Collaboration among universities will become even more important in the future, and I look forward to working with JAIST to create an environment where different academic disciplines can merge to achieve common goals."
"Ishikawa Prefecture has been proud of its high level of manufacturing technology since the days of the Kaga Clan, and in that spirit, JAIST has been able to contribute to the local community while achieving significant scientific and technological results. The matching program between start-up companies and universities has been very influential and I look forward to the creation of a flow of mutual learning and refinement between the two institutions." Naoki Okada, Minister of State for Okinawa stated.
Starting with this agreement, JAIST and OIST will promote exchange of researchers, mutual use of research facilities, cooperation in joint conferences and symposiums, and cooperation in technology transfer and entrepreneurship development.
