An independent Road Safety Audit (RSA) has been conducted in the vicinity of the Old Mendooran Road Boothenba Road intersection and is now available to view online.
The RSA was tabled at the first Infrastructure, Planning and Environment Committee meeting on Thursday evening, with Councillors commending staff on the work done to date. "A lot of people will assume because the road hasn't been closed yet, that Council haven't done anything on it. In fact we have heard what great lengths Council engineering staff have gone to, to ensure the safest and most accommodating solutions have been considered before closing that portion of road and avoiding creating other issues elsewhere. I'd like to commend staff on their diligence, and I want to reassure the community that a safer Old Mendooran Road is now a lot closer," said Infrastructure, Planning and Environment Committee Chair, Councillor Joshua Black.
DRC's Manager Infrastructure Strategy and Design Chris Godfrey said the independent audit provides clear direction for the next phase of planning. "The RSA has provided staff with confirmation to pursue the next phase of the project which is conceptual design. Having the independent research available provides staff with a fully informed approach to making – and creating – a safer intersection for Old Mendooran Road and Boothenba Road," said Mr Godfrey.
