One of the City of Greater Geelong's most well-known sporting precincts will use more than 50 tonnes of recycled crumbed rubber in upgrade works at the facility.
Track upgrades continue to take place at Landy Field in South Geelong, where 57 tonnes of recycled rubber for the project – sourced from used truck tyres – will be installed.
Recent works have included the installation of the base rubber and sealer coat to the athletics track, with the topcoat rubber of to be installed in the coming weeks.

Our Environment Strategy promotes a circular economy through sustainable procurement practices, supports new and existing markets for recovered resources, and promotes increased use of recycled materials in road, building and other infrastructure constructions.The work being undertaken at Landy Field is innovative in its nature and current users as well as future generations of athletes will benefit from these substantial upgrades.
The $1.5 million renewal of the athletics track is being fully funded by the City of Greater Geelong, and will see the installation of a brand new surface in blue and grey, plus relocation of the hammer and discuss cage to allow for more competition events to be carried out at the same time.
The renewal of the Landy Field track will mean the facility retains its World Athletics Class 2 accreditation.
