Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that the Honourable Rob Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will travel to Brussels, Belgium, on May 26, 2024, to represent Canada at the International Partners Meeting on Palestine. The meeting will be chaired by Espen Barth Eide, Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs, and hosted by Josep Borrell Fontelles, the European Union's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

During the meeting, Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant and representatives from the international community will hear directly from Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa of the Palestinian Authority (PA) on his government's plans and priorities, including its reform agenda. Canada recognizes the importance of PA reform as a preliminary step for the PA to play a central role in the recovery, reconstruction and governance of Gaza and to improve its effectiveness and transparency in the West Bank.

Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant will also reiterate Canada's commitment to supporting a return to a framework that can best guarantee sustainable peace and dignity for both Palestinians and Israelis.
