Onboard training for cadets from Asia and Pacific countries

Ten cadets from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand are enjoying onboard training on the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT) training ship, Hanwoori.

The training (27 November to 17 December) is being sponsored by IMO's Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP), IMO and the Republic of Korea, under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Korea and IMO on technical cooperation, and a partnership with the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT).

Four of the cadets are female. The programme supports the needs of Asia and Pacific countries by providing an opportunity for education and training, especially for women in the maritime sector.  The onboard training for deck and engine cadets utilizes training ships and other training facilities of the Republic of Korea.
