Farmers and supporters are being urged to get ready to make history in Canberra at the National Farmer Rally next week.
National Farmers' Federation President David Jochinke said this time next week he looked forwarded to joining thousands in the nation's capital to stand up for the future of Australian agriculture.
"This is a pivotal moment for our farming community, and we need every supporter to join us to make a powerful statement to decision-makers that activists and ideology should not be calling the shots," Mr Jochinke said.
"People who have never even stepped foot on a farm are dictating how farmers should grow the food and fibre we depend on every single day.
"This rally is about ensuring Australia's farmers aren't being hamstrung by red tape and legislation, much of which is underpinned by agendas aiming to shut farms down."
Priority concerns the industry will highlight at the rally include:
- The activist-led ban on live sheep exports by sea
- Calls to scrap the Diesel Fuel Rebate
- Proposed new taxes for biosecurity and on superannuation
- Calls to scrap the 88 days of specified work for backpackers
- Water buybacks in the Murray Darling Basin and protecting the Great Artesian Basin
- Unnecessary red tape from Scope 3 emissions reporting
- The community impacts of energy and renewables developments
"The farm sector is the lifeblood of our regional communities and farmers work hard to feed and clothe Australians every single day. Yet we are facing a growing list of challenges driven by agendas from groups who don't understand or support Aussie farmers," Mr Jochinke said.
"This rally is a moment in history to make our voices heard on the national stage and to ensure we get back on track with policies and values that support farming in Australia.
"Whether you're a farmer or someone who values the essential role of Aussie farmers, your presence at the National Farmer Rally will make a difference."
