Ongoing Support for Farmers Hit by 2024 Drought

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government is committed to ensuring the state's farmers and producers have the support they need to recover from the devastating drought experienced in the past year.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jane Howlett, said while the grass might be green and the dams full now, the impacts of the extended dry season are long lasting.

"There is no doubt that Tasmania's farmers have done it tough during the drought," Minister Howlett said.

"I have seen first hand the difficult conditions they have had to manage and listened to them explain how it has affected them.

"This year, Business Tasmania has provided around $4.1 million to 549 businesses in seasonal conditions hardship grants across King and Flinders Islands and on mainland Tasmania.

"Tasmania's agriculture sector has never been more important and is the backbone of our economy and way of life.

"The 2024-25 Budget funds extra support for our farmers now and to build resilience for the future."

This includes:

The Tasmanian Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future builds on our support for the $2.3 billion agriculture sector with the investment the 2024-25 Budget provides.

Through this investment the Tasmanian Government is supporting our farmers and producers to help meet our target to grow the farm gate value of Tasmanian agriculture to $10 billion by 2050.
