The Barossa Council will transition to an online celebration of Australia Day in response to the current Covid-19 situation.
Mayor Bim Lange said while it was regrettable to cancel the annual breakfast event at Tanunda Show Hall on 26 January, the decision was made in the interests of public safety.
"We know Covid-19 is a constantly evolving situation and the wellbeing of our community was always going to be at the forefront of our decision-making," he said.
"While we won't be celebrating face-to-face in 2022, we can still acknowledge and recognise the wonderful contribution of our Citizen of the Year award winners and new Australian citizens in a Covid-safe presentation online.
