Online Harassment Charges, South Brisbane

Detectives from the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to appeal for public assistance after a man was charged in relation to online threats and harassment posted on social media last year.

Police will allege the man used various social media services to post repeated messages threatening, intimidating, and harassing a man and his family between June and October 2024. The man was targeted because of his role as the executive of an Australian based online platform.

Investigators executed a search warrant at a Fairfield address on 26 October 2024, where a device was seized, and a 40-year-old Fairfield man was taken into custody.

He has been charged with one count each of unlawful stalking, intimidation and harassing, and contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He is next expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 28.

Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Constable Ian Andrews said police take all matters of online threats and harassment seriously.

"Whether online or in person, repeatedly harassing, threatening and intimidating others is an offence and police will investigate and hold alleged offenders to account," Detective Senior Constable Andrews said.

"We continue to appeal for anyone with information regarding this matter to come forward."

Investigations are ongoing.
