A range of different sports and activities are on offer as part of Campaspe Shire Council's new Open Sports sessions. Held at the Tongala and Kyabram Stadiums, Open Sports will reinvigorate healthy social activities at the stadiums following the waves of pandemic induced lockdowns and regulations.
Mayor Chrissy Weller said the program had been assisted by community feedback.
"We recently released a survey to help better understand what residents would like to see at the stadiums. Were they interested in basketball, squash, soccer? From this data, the Recreation team was able to organise a variety of suitable sports. Depending on what participants are interested in on the night and stadium capacity, the sports on offer will vary.
"I encourage you to venture to the Tongala or Kyabram Stadium and bring your family, friends and workmates."
Open Sports is at the Tongala Stadium on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4 – 7pm, finishing on Wednesday, 14 September, to break for school holidays.
At the Kyabram Stadium, Open Sports is being held on Friday evenings between 4 – 7pm, finishing on Friday, 16 September, also breaking for school holidays.
Cost is $5 per person or $11 per family (2 adults, 2 children). Cash only please, no EFTPOS.
Bookings are not required. Parental supervision is required for children under 10.
"We've had enquiries as to whether this program will be held in Echuca, however the Echuca Stadium is currently booked out every weeknight with current competitions. If the opportunity was to present itself, we would investigate setting up an Open Sports in Echuca," the Mayor added.
