Operation Angove Wraps Up

The Northern Territory Police Force festive season road safety operation concluded on Friday last week.

Over the three-week period, Operation Angove set up 97 random breath test locations and conducted over 12,600 random breath tests. Of note, 83 drivers were over the legal limit and 44 tested positive for drug driving.

Additionally, over 65,000 speed camera checks were conducted with 2137 traffic infringement notices issued.

Superintendent Peter Dash said, "Overall Territorians were well behaved on the roads, with the exception of a disappointing few.

"While those who tested positive to alcohol or other drugs were in the minority, it only takes one drunk or drug effected driver to cause a devastating crash.

"With 74 % percent of fatalities on our roads in 2024 having alcohol as a contributing factor, we would like to remind all road users to remember the Fatal Five.

"Don't speed, manage fatigue, eliminate distractions, wear a seatbelt, and never get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"Whilst Operation Angove has wrapped up the public can rest assured, we won't be pulling up stumps.

"The Northern Territory Police Force is committed to decreasing road trauma, so you will continue to see extra police on our roads.

"Let's make 2025 a safer year on Territory roads."
