Northen Territory Police Domestic Violence and Youth Command have arrested 80 domestic violence offenders since 2 September 2024, in a targeted operation.
On Monday 2 September, Operation Jardine commenced to target outstanding domestic violence offenders, as well as those with outstanding warrants for domestic related offences across the Northern Territory. The operation was executed by all policing divisions, with 36 of the arrests being made in regional and remote areas.
Acting Commander Matt Akers said, "This operation was a significant undertaking, and I commend all involved for their efforts in investigating and apprehending these offenders while maintaining a focus on general frontline duties.
"The offences carried out by these alleged offenders range from sexual intercourse without consent, deprivation of liberty, aggravated assault, and breaches of domestic violence orders.
"It is of utmost importance to us that victims of domestic violence are protected. While this operation aimed to track down and arrest offenders, our officers also provided vital support to victims as well as continuing efforts to serve domestic violence orders.
"Our work in this space is ongoing. Over the past 7 days alone, the Northern Territory Police Force has received 719 domestic violence-related reports.
"Enough is enough. There is no place for Domestic and Family Violence in our communities."
