Tasmania Police has wrapped up its annual festive season road safety effort, Operation Safe Arrival, with a range of enforcement actions taken across the state.
Assistant Commissioner Adrian Bodnar thanked the community for their cooperation.
"Operation Safe Arrival has once again shown how important road safety is during the festive season," he said.
"It was a busy time on Tasmanian roads and our officers were out there, working hard to keep people safe."
Key Results:
- Drink and drug driving: Tasmania Police conducted 10,583 random alcohol and drug tests, resulting in 44 drink drivers being caught, and 73 drug drivers. This highlights our ongoing efforts to tackle impaired driving.
- Speeding: 761 people were caught speeding
- Crashes: There were four serious crashes reported during the operation period. Sadly, two lives were lost.
- Mobile phone use: Officers issued 35 fines for mobile phone use while driving, and 74 for inattentive drivers.
"We appreciate the public's support and encourage everyone to keep following the road rules and reporting dangerous behaviour as the busy summer season continues," Assistant Commissioner Bodnar said.
"By working together and sharing the responsibility, we can make our roads safer."
