Police presence at Victor Harbor is set to increase with Operation Schoolies, bringing a focus on community and road safety during the 2024 schoolies season.
The 2024 Encounter Youth Schoolies Festival is expected to attract around 4,000 school leavers to the Victor Harbor region for a three-day celebration featuring activities, music and a fleet of free shuttle buses for ticketholders.
Operation Schoolies Commander Superintendent Joanne Howard said police will be present with emergency service partners to create a safe environment for school leavers and the local community.
"In previous years, excessive drinking has been a key risk at schoolies," Superintendent Howard said.
"While the Encounter Youth Schoolies Festival grounds are alcohol-free, those who are legally able to consume alcohol are reminded to drink responsibly.
"SA Police's Road Safety Section will visit the region's caravan parks daily to offer voluntary breath testing.
"Look after each other. If you are drinking, then don't drive. There are lots of transport options available to the region and between the region's towns.
"Remember taking illicit drugs is illegal and those detected in possession of illicit drugs will face serious consequences.
"We are there to help everyone have a great time and stay safe. You can ask us for help if you need it or just come and say hi to us."
