Police have conducted a high-visibility operation proactively targeting property crime offenders in Orange last week.
Between 5pm Friday (9 August 2024) and 3am on Saturday (10 August 2024), officers attached to Central West Police District, Criminal Investigations Unit, the Dog Unit and Macquarie Highway Patrol Command, were deployed in Orange in a high-saturation police operation targeting alleged offenders and crime hotspots.
This operation allows police to engage with the public in highly-visible areas and in vast numbers, reinforcing that the police are there to protect the community all day, every day.
Results from Operation Surge include,
- 4 people charged
- 18 bail compliance checks
- 120 RBT conducted
- 18 RDT conducted
- 4 person/vehicle searches
- 38 traffic infringements notices
- 11 licensed premise inspections, and
- 20 cars found unlocked and owners notified.
Incidents of note;
- About 7.30pm on Friday (9 August 2024), police attended a home on Leura Road, Orange, to arrest a man following an earlier domestic violence incident. Upon arrival police raised the occupants while another officer went into the rear of the yard and spoke with a man. A 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Orange Polices Station.
A short time later police executed a crime scene warrant and searched the home where they seized cannabis plants, cannabis leaf and seeds, indoor growing equipment, cash, mobile phones, psilocybin mushrooms, drug paraphernalia and methylamphetamine.
The man was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic) and was given conditional bail to appear at Orange Local Court on Tuesday 13 August 2024.
Inquiries are continuing into the items seized.
- About 10.20pm on Saturday (10 August 2024), police were patrolling South Terrace, Orange, when they stopped to speak with a group of youths. A 17-year-old boy known to police was arrested, with officers allegedly locating and seizing two bottles of alcohol from him. The teen was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with breach of bail and appeared at a children's court at the weekend.
