A man is due in court charged with drug and weapon offences after being arrested during a two-day police operation targeting alleged criminal networks in Sydney's Sutherland Shire.
On Thursday 25 July to Friday 26 July 2024, officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command executed Operation Armour, a whole-command strategic campaign to prevent and disrupt Organised Criminal Networks (OCN) and Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) activity in the area.
About 8am on Friday (26 July 2024), a 33-year-old man in Sylvania was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with three counts of possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug, and custody of a knife in public place.
When his vehicle was searched, substances, alleged to be prohibited drugs, were seized. They will undergo forensic examination. The man has been refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court later today (Tuesday 30 July 2024).
During the course of the operation, police conducted Firearms Prohibition Order (FPOs) searches, Apprehended Violence Order (AVOs) checks, person searches, vehicle searches, business inspections, as well as multiple roadside breath and drug tests.
As a result, police issued 33 Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs) to drivers/riders.
Local resources including general duties police, detectives, licensing officers and proactive teams were utilised, as well as regional units from Raptor, Region Enforcement Squad Central Metropolitan Region, Traffic and Highway Patrol, Central Metropolitan High Visibility Patrol, Marine Area Command, the Dog Unit and PolAir.
Further operations are planned to prevent and disrupt OCN/OMCG activity in the area.
