Operation Warlord at Cairns

Queensland Police Service officers completed Operation Warlord last week executing 14 search warrants and charging nine people with a total of 26 drug related offences.

The operation was carried out on Thursday, August 6 and targeted several properties across the greater Cairns area.

As a result, police seized a quantity of methylamphetamine (ice), methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), cannabis, drug paraphernalia, a cross bow and a large sum of cash alleged to be the proceeds of drug trafficking.

Operation Warlord is a disruption strategy of the Cairns CIB targeting drug activity within the Greater Cairns area utilising information sourced by police.

This operation was a cooperative effort between the QPS and our partner agency, Australian Border Force (ABF).

Detective Inspector Jason Smith urged the community to report information about the production, supply and dealing of ice or illegal drugs and drug related activity.

"Drug use stops with the dealer, so police require support from the local communities to identify dealers of illicit drugs," Detective Inspector Smith said.

Offences detected during the operation include:

  • Police located a quantity of methylamphetamine, cannabis, drug paraphernalia and four mobile phones from a McLeod Street, Cairns North property. A 28-year-old Cairns North woman was charged with two counts of possess dangerous drugs and one count each of possess utensil, possess anything used in the commission of a crime, contravene order for access information and obstruct police. She appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday.
  • Police seized a quantity of methylamphetamine (Ice), drug paraphernalia, iPad and three mobile phones from a home in Robert Road, Bentley Park. A 27-year-old Bentley Park woman was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drug, possess things used in the commission of a crime, possess utensils and contravene order for access information.
  • Police seized a quantity of cannabis from a home in McLeod Street North Cairns. A 48-year-old Cairns North man was charged with one count of possess dangerous drug. He's scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 6.
  • Police seized a large quantity of cash, cannabis, MDMA, brown crystals, phone and drug paraphernalia from a home in Girralong Street, Earlville. A 23-year-old Smithfield man was charged with two counts of possess dangerous drug, one count each of possess thing used in commission of a crime, possess utensil and obstruct police.
  • Police seized a quantity of methylamphetamine, cannabis, prescription medication, drug paraphernalia a tool from a home in Brutus Close, Edmonton. A 38-year-old Edmonton woman was charged with two counts of possess dangerous drug and one count of possess utensils. She is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 6. A cross bow was also seized however investigations are ongoing.
  • Police seized a quantity of methylamphetamine, cannabis and drug paraphernalia including a generator and fan from a home in Burton Close, White Rock. A 30-year-old White Rock woman was charged with two counts of possess dangerous drugs and one count each of possess utensil and possess things used in connection with the commission of a crime, whilst a 29-year-old Cairns man was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drug and possess things used in connection with the commission of a crime. Both are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court in October.
  • Police seized a quantity of cannabis from a home in McLeod Street Cairns North. A 25-year-old Cairns woman was charged with one count of possess dangerous drugs and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 6.
  • Police seized a quantity of packaged cannabis and drug paraphernalia from a unit in Digger Street, Cairns North. A 42-year-old Cairns North man was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs, produce dangerous drugs and possess utensils. He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 21.
