Operation Whiskey Legion To Saturate Logan Hotspots

A major multi-level police operation will return to Logan this week for the latest deployment of Operation Whiskey Legion.

Operation Whiskey Legion will see specialist police from the Highway Patrol, Crime and Intelligence Command, Rail Squad, Dog Squad, and Crime Prevention join forces with local police to target high-risk crime in the area.

The additional officers will provide high police visibility, focusing on shopping precincts, train and transport hubs, and other hotspots across the district.

Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said Legion was all about ensuring the community is safe and feels safe.

"Our specialist police units are collaborating once again with local Logan officers to take action against the individuals causing the most harm in our community.

"The Logan community will notice an increased police presence in areas like shopping centres and public spaces, enhancing community safety and security.

"Recent deployments in Logan, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Mackay, and both North and South Brisbane have seen a significant boost in police resources, leading to thousands of charges.

"We are committed to ongoing Legion deployments to reduce crime across Queensland, and this operation will target high-impact crimes such as robberies, burglaries, serious assaults, vehicle theft, and Domestic and Family Violence.

"We are also committed to engaging with victims of crime, ensuring they receive continuous updates and support."

Logan District Acting Chief Superintendent Mark Thompson said police were looking forward to having the additional resources deployed to the district to supercharge local efforts.

"We've seen the results that have taken place following the deployment of Legion in the Logan District in April, and we are eager for those resources to return to Logan to assist in areas where the community experiences high crime," Acting Chief Superintendent Thompson said.

"The Logan community can once again expect to see more officers and Police Liaison Officers (PLOs) than usual in our busy areas, including shopping centres and transport hubs, not just performing enforcement, but also engagement about crime prevention.

"Motorists can also expect to see police targeting those road users that choose to engage in not only drink and drug driving, but also careless and dangerous driving.

"We're looking forward to seeing what we can achieve with Whiskey Legion again here in Logan."

Since April, Operation Whiskey Legion has resulted in 2072 adults arrested on 4918 charges and 441 juveniles arrested on 1307 charges.

Police have engaged with more than 3,500 victims of crime, with 259 also referred to support services during the deployment.
