Operation Xray Lionrock Targets Crime In South Burnett

A three-day policing operation in the South Burnett, has resulted in six people charged with over 50 charges relating to property, drug and weapon offences as well as anti-social behaviour.

Between Tuesday, January 7 and Thursday January 9, police carried out several search warrants, bail compliance and street checks at several different locations in Kingaroy.

This resulted in six people charged with a total of 53 charges including possession of dangerous drugs, trespass, enter premises and commit, enter premises/attempt enter premises, unlawful possession of a weapon, fraud/attempted fraud, possessing suspected property, and possessing property obtained from trafficking/supplying.

Operation Xray Lionrock which will run throughout 2025, is a Darling Downs District driven initiative designed to enhance community safety through an ongoing series of short -planned deployments throughout the district.

The operation involves various crime prevention and disruption policing activities including hi-visibility patrols targeting crime hot spots and high-risk offenders, road safety initiatives, bail compliance and community engagement.

Local police will work closely with specialist police units such as Tactical Crime Squad (TCS), Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU), Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), the Youth Co-Responder Team, Dog Squad and Highway Patrol to co-ordinate targeted operations aimed to disrupt, prevent and investigate crime.

Darling Downs District Officer Superintendent Doug McDonald said he was pleased to see the operation had already illustrated impressive proactive policing activities.

"Our recent operation in Kingaroy combined the efforts of local knowledge, expert resources and specialist police working together to keep our community safe."

"By looking at crime from every angle, we will disrupt crime and we will catch up with those who commit crime and threaten the safety of our community."

Operation Xray Lionrock follows a month-long operation over the Christmas period which saw police charge 75 people in the South Burnett region with 185 charges.

In addition, a combined effort between Murgon and Kingaroy Detectives, as well as Cherbourg and Murgon general duties officers resulted in the arrest of four serious juvenile offenders at Cherbourg.

Superintendent McDonald said officers have also adopted community engagement strategies to help enhance policing efforts in the region.

"To assist in our ongoing efforts, we have deployed mobile police beats in Wondai and Murgon over the past month and have also conducted community engagement activities in Kingaroy which has been widely welcomed by the community."
