Charity event organised by students on 28 April is part of the National Garden Scheme
Visitors can explore the unique grounds of ARU Writtle during an open gardens charity event organised by students later this month.
ARU Writtle's 15 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, just three miles from the centre of Chelmsford, will be open to the public on Sunday, 28 April from 10am until 4pm.
The event, part of the National Garden Scheme, includes free terrarium workshops, a floristry exhibition and a plant sale. Refreshments will be available on site.
The campus features informal lawns with bulbs and wildflowers, a large collection of trees, herbaceous and dry Mediterranean borders, and much more.
The gardens can be enjoyed with or without a guided tour from knowledgeable ARU Writtle BSc (Hons) Horticulture students. As part of their course, the students also maintain the gardens, which serve as a welcoming space for learning and research.
Third-year student Kelly Hanson, who is one of the organisers of the event, said:
"We are delighted to be welcoming visitors onto our campus to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
"ARU Writtle is one of the oldest gardens in the National Garden Scheme, and we are proud of our ongoing work to enhance our campus for native wildlife.
"There will be plenty to see and do on the day for people of all ages and we hope they enjoy this unique environment and experience as much as we do."
Tickets cost £5 for adults and are free for children, and can be bought on the day or in advance via the National Garden Scheme website. Money raised from the event will benefit NGS charities.
