Orange Regional Museum is developing an exhibition exploring the history of Bloomfield Hospital to coincide with its 100th anniversary in November 2025.

♦ In short: Orange Regional Museum is developing an exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of Bloomfield Hospital.

♦ Volunteers have been working through archival material from Bloomfield Hospital to assist with the research and development of the exhibition

♦ What's next: The museum is calling for information, items or documents relating to the hospital for inclusion in the exhibition.

One year out from the centenary, members of the community are being encouraged to share information, items or documents relating to the history of Bloomfield Hospital for possible inclusion in the exhibition.

Orange Mayor Tony Mileto encouraged anyone wanting to share photos, objects, stories or memories of the heritage-listed hospital to contact the Museum.

"As we approach the centenary of Bloomfield Hospital it is important to capture as much information as possible so we can accurately tell the stories of the thousands of patients and staff associated with the hospital over the past 100 years," Cr Mileto said.

Orange Regional Museum Manager, Dr Mary-Elizabeth Andrews, says museum volunteers have been working through archival material from Bloomfield Hospital to assist with the research and development of the exhibition.

This builds on work carried out from 2014 to 2017 by Orange City Council's Sustainable Collections team to document the contents of the former volunteer-run Bloomfield Museum.

"Over the course of several months, volunteers and staff documented more than 800 items that will inform the exhibition content," Dr Andrews said.

"We're currently refining the exhibition structure and approach, and selecting objects, images and documents for display, as well as sourcing oral histories and interview participants to include.

"We're looking for more material to help us develop the exhibition and ensure we're capturing the story."

The Museum is particularly keen to hear from people who have original photographs from any time over the past 100 years of Bloomfield history, patient-made items including needlework and canework, uniforms or other staff memorabilia from the 1920s-1980s, or know of any surviving architectural or site plans from the 1920s-1940s.
