Graceful moth orchids, glamourous Cattleyas, and distinctive dancing ladies are set to steal the show at the Sub-Tropical Orchid Council Rocky Round Up Orchidfest 2019.
The triennial celebration of everything orchid will be held by the Rockhampton Orchid Society on 14 and 15 September at Korte's Resort, and Rockhampton Regional Council will be providing a cash sponsorship of $7,000 toward the event.
Rockhampton Region Deputy Mayor Cherie Rutherford said that Orchidfest will not only be a great show, but will also bring some fantastic benefits to the area.
"The Sub-Tropical Orchid Council consists of seventeen orchid societies from Caboolture to Rockhampton, and organises an event once every three years which is hosted by one of the member orchid societies," said Cr Rutherford.
"This year, the Rockhampton Orchid Society will have the honour of hosting the event, and it will be the first time the event has travelled this far north.
"The Rockhampton Region has a very active gardening community, and I'm sure there are many people who will be excited for this event to take place.
"Approximately two thousand people are expected to attend Orchirdfest, with a number of attendees traveling in from across the state and country and from overseas.
"As well as being a fantastic event for attendees, the Rocky Round Up Orchidfest will also bring some great economic benefits to the area as visitors stay in local hotels, shop at our stores, discover our restaurants, and explore everything we have to offer."
Rocky Round Up Orchidfest Show Marshal Jeff Glover said that this is a significant event in the orchid world.
"We are very grateful to have Council's support to help make this orchid extravaganza bigger and better than we thought possible," said Mr Glover
"The show will include an exhibition of club displays and tabled plants, as well as some exciting guest speakers.
"Ten specialist orchid nurseries will be traveling in for the event, and kindred groups such as the Bonsai Club and the Cake Decorators Club will also be involved.
"It's going to be an unmissable weekend for plant lovers."
The Sub-Tropical Orchid Council Rocky Round Up Orchidfest 2019 will run from 9am to 4pm on Saturday 14 September and 9am to 3pm on Sunday 15 September.
