Becky Bangs has been appointed executive director of the Oregon State University Office of Equal Opportunity and Access and OSU's Title IX coordinator effective May 15.
Bangs currently serves as director of equal opportunity investigations and deputy Title IX coordinator in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access (EOA). The office oversees OSU's compliance with federal, state and university policies and regulations regarding affirmative action, equal opportunity, disability access and other civil rights.
"I am committed to continuing to build connections and community throughout the university as I move into this position," Bangs said. "EOA plays an important role in ensuring that OSU is a safe, inclusive and equitable place to live, learn, work and grow. I look forward to continuing to advance the work of the office and OSU's efforts related to civil rights compliance, affirmative action, access, equity and inclusion."
OSU President Jayathi Y. Murthy made the appointment praising Bangs' background and her contributions at Oregon State.
"Becky has served the university as the director of Equal Opportunity investigations and deputy Title IX coordinator with great competence for over three years," said Murthy "She has a keen understanding of EOA's responsibilities; has contributed greatly in her roles; and has developed valuable relationships across the university that will serve her well as EOA executive director and Title IX coordinator."
Prior to arriving at Oregon State, Bangs worked eight years for Multnomah County in the Department of County Human Service, where she helped to create safer, more equitable and inclusive communities through collaborations involving law enforcement, advocacy agencies, county, city and state programs.
Bangs also has worked at the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence in Corvallis and for University Housing and Dining Services at Oregon State.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Oregon State and a master's degree from the School for International Training Graduate Institute in Vermont.
Susan Freccia currently serves as interim executive director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access and Title IX coordinator as well as director of compliance for the Office of Audit, Risk and Compliance. Freccia was appointed to the interim executive director role after Kim Kirkland retired from the university earlier this year.
