On 24 September 2023, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (the Office) wrapped up a two-week training course for 20 Tajik rescuers from Tajikistan's Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence. The training course "Refugee and internally displaced persons camp planning and operation" was conducted in Zolizar village of Jalolidini Balkhi district (Khatlon region) and organized in co-operation with the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence.

The course aimed at enhancing the rescuers' skills and capacities in the area of refugee camp management. Participants were trained on the principles of providing accommodation to refugees and victims of natural disasters in a camp by experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH).

The event was conducted as part of the OSCE project on the Stabilization of Tajikistan's southern borders with Afghanistan, funded by the European Union. The project aims to strengthen the professional capacities of both Tajikistan's Border Troops and the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence to combat illicit activities in border regions and respond to natural disasters.
