A major multi-level operation has concluded in the Mackay Whitsundays area, with more than 257 people arrested on over 596 charges.
Operation Whiskey Legion commenced its 10-day blitz across the Mackay Whitsunday District on June 5, with the assistance of specialist police from Highway Patrol, Crime and Intelligence Command, Rail Squad, Water Police, Dog Squad and Crime Prevention to target high-risk crime throughout the area.
The charges include serious offences such as armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary, and Domestic and Family Violence offences.
The sixth deployment of Legion has seen the total operation tally more than 1,249 people charged with more than 3,091 offences.
Superintendent Graeme Paine said the operation has successfully seen police take strong action against those causing harm in the community.
"Through specialist police joining forces with our local officers, we have been able to tackle crime from all angles to ensure our community is safe and feels safe," said Superintendent Graeme Paine.
"The significant surge in police capacity has supported our efforts to drive down crime and charge high-risk offenders with serious offences such as armed robbery, break and enter, vehicle theft, assault and Domestic and Family Violence offences."
Detective Acting Inspector Chris Eaton said the operation has achieved significant results throughout the Mackay Whitsundays District.
"We have been able to conduct more than 65 search warrants, 3,989 RBTs and RDTs, 238 wandings and 102 hotspot patrols," Detective Acting Inspector Chris Eaton said.
"Supporting the local community through community engagements and high visibility policing has been a top priority for our District throughout the operation."
"The Mackay community has noticed and appreciated additional police on the ground at our mobile police facilities across shopping centres and public areas and in busy areas such as our Safe Night Precincts."
"Through our community efforts, we have also engaged with 259 victims and referred 56 people in need to local support services."
