P-plater Caught Exceeding Speed Limit By 60km/h

A P-plater from Southern Tasmania will be fined and disqualified from driving for up to four months after he was caught speeding in Midway Point last night.

Road Policing Services detected the youth on a motorcycle displaying red P-plates travelling at 120km/h in a 60km/h signposted area on the Tasman Highway at Midway Point.

Inspector Kathy Bennett said it is disappointing that road users continue to place themselves and others at risk by travelling at such high speeds.

"This is another example of poor driver behaviour and could have easily resulted in serious injury or tragedy to the inexperienced provisional rider or other road users."

The youth had his motorcycle seized for 28 days and now faces being fined $1140.00 and disqualified from driving for up to 4 months.

Anyone who sees dangerous driving on our roads is encouraged to report it to police immediately on 131 444 or online at: police.tas.gov.au/report.
