Police have charged a P1 Provisional driver for allegedly exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h in the State's Riverina yesterday.
About 12.30 (Tuesday 4 May, 2021) officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement along Marrar Road, Downside, 15km north-west of Wagga Wagga.
Police allegedly detected a white Chrysler 300 sedan travelling at 150km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The driver – an 18-year-old man from Young – was stopped and provided a P1 license, which restricts him to a maximum of 90km/h.
It will be further alleged the driver had P2 Provisional green 'P' plates on the vehicle, giving the perception he was permitted to travel 100km/h.
The driver was issued a penalty notice for exceed speed limit greater than 45km/h, and fined $2520 and six demerits.
His licence was suspended until November 2021.
Acting Inspector Brett Collins says "we are frustrated by drivers making poor decisions behind the wheel that ultimately put other road users at risk/in harm's way.
"It's disappointing given the driver's age. Speeding kills and it's something we see all too often.
"This danger on our roads is avoidable; just drive to the speed limit and make sure you arrive to your destination safely."
