From 4pm today, paint will not be accepted at Council's Community Recycling Centre until further notice.
The decision to suspend paint recycling was made by the NSW EPA following a fire at the Cleanaway processing facility at St Mary's. The fire has affected paint and chemical collection from multiple councils.
The Community Recycling Centre will continue to accept:
- Smoke detectors
- Gas bottles
- Fire extinguishers
- Car batteries
- Household batteries
- Fluorescent globes and tubes
- TV and computer equipment
- Paper and cardboard
- Clothing via the donation bin
The EPA is working with affected councils to find alternative transport, storage and processing options. Council will inform the community when paint drop-offs can recommence. Residents are being asked to securely store their paints until this time.
